Dr Severinac chose plastic surgery through the typical medical school evolution. Initially he thought he would be a pediatrician. In his 3rd year of medical school’s first rotation, Pediatrics was satisfying but something was missing. His second rotation was in General Surgery in which he immediately realized that using his hands in a meaningful and creative way was going to be a central part of his profession. His third rotation was in Plastic Surgery and his first case was the repair of a babies cleft lip and palate. It all came together and he pursued training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Severinac maintains active membership in several prestigious professional societies. These include the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.
Through the years Dr. Severinac has realized that the satisfaction he feels after reconstructing a babies face is the same as when he improves an adults appearance. He thinks of all his patients as his “babies” delivering the same level of passion and expertise to all of his plastic surgery improvements.
The 22 years of private practice has continued to bless Dr. Severinac. Primarily through “word of mouth,” he has developed a very successful broad practice in plastic surgery. Dr. Severinac believes in the positive impact plastic surgery can have one’s self-esteem and overall health. Many medical ailments are believed to have their roots in anxiety which is related to low self-esteem. Properly planned and performed plastic surgery can therefore drastically improve self esteem, decrease anxiety, and improve health.
Dr. Severinac frequently extends this value system to the least fortunate in the world frequently performing reconstructive surgery for children with facial deformities from Africa and China, at no charge. So when a cosmetic plastic surgery patient says “I feel guilty doing this when there are so many that are needy,”he points out that it is his patients trust and thriving practice that allows him to do missionary work for children with deformities. Dr. Severinac’s extremely successful cosmetic practice affords him to do this.
When not practicing his passion in plastic surgery, Dr. Severinac channels his creativity into music. He is a musician and a composer (piano, acoustic guitar, vocals, 12 string guitar, slide guitar, merlin guitar, harmonica, percussion). His piano compositions are featured on our phone system. He also enjoys drawing in pencil and chalk.
Dr. Severinac owes his gifts to God which he received through his mother, an accomplished artist and retired nurse, and his father, a retired engineer and FAM or “Fix Anything Man.”He enjoys his “work” so much that he does not consider retirement, agreeing with Confucius saying “If you love what you do, you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Dr. Severinac is blessed with his wife of 30 years and four adult children and one grandchild. He lives in Fort Wayne only a mile from his practice. He believes in simplifying life by keeping the worldly material things at bay while enjoying the present moment. Although Dr. Severinac was raised and practices Christian principles, he understands that all religions and spiritual leaders point to the same basic truths we can all embrace together as human beings.
